Create space for NEW cupboard
1. Remove all linen (and extra items) from your linen cupboard.
2. Sort items into piles you would like to store.
3. Discard, donate, relocate or put aside any items you no longer want in your linen cupboard.
4. Clean the shelves ready for you new arrangement
Fold ready to Go
Towels
1. Separate towels into beach, bath towels, guest bath towels, old towels. I find it an excellent idea to store hand towels and face cloths in the bathroom if possible.
2. Fold towels first in half and then in thirds. This is the ideal way to store towels to maximize storage space and they always look great (face the open edges toward the back).
Another folding option is to roll towels. Fold towels first in half and then roll.
This is a great way to store towels that are on display on a bathroom shelf or in a basket.
Sheet Sets
1. Store the same size linen together. Some suggestions include:
If you want to use it as a set, store it as a set
If you mix and match (especially ideal for children’s beds with all the wonderful colour and designs) then it is ok to store ALL fitted sheets, top sheets, duvet covers together.
2. Store pillowcase separate so not to get lost.
3. Alternatively, store the set of linen neatly in a matching pillow case.
Blankets and Quilts
1. Store blankets frequently used in this cupboard
2. For other bulky blankets that are not used as often, think about storing in a wicker chest in the lounge area or another cupboard or store sealed in a vacuum seal bag under beds or at the top of cupboards
Dining and Antique linens
1. Ideally these should be hung on a non-wire hanger. Other wise fold them flat and if antique store on a shelf lined with acid free tissue paper.
2. If you prefer, dining linen (table cloths and napkins) can be stored near the kitchen or dining area for easy access.
Storing linen in the cupboard
1. Place the least used items at the back
2. Keep frequently used items together, for instance all towels together, all sheets together.
3. Remember, just because it is a pillow, it does not mean it has to go in the linen cupboard
4. Keep the space filled with, what you need and then find another home for the items you don’t need.
5. If short on space think about storing some items (like extra blankets, or umbrellas) in another location in the home.
